Do you know how to find your heart’s desire? How do you know when you’ve found it? What is a heart’s desire?

In life and especially when you’re looking to start a business from home, the reasons why you do something and how successful you are at it very much depends on how motivated you are. And motivation comes from your heart’s desire. No one else can motivate you, the spark must already exist inside of you. Others can only fan that spark into a flame.

Let’s look at a common theme that might resonate with you. Let’s say you wanted to go to college. Let’s also assume that you had three subjects that you found interesting and they were law, history and politics.

There may be various reasons why you want to go to college. It may be that your parents expect it of you. It may be that all your friend are going and you don’t want to be left out. It may be just that you want to. The question to ask is, “How strongly do I feel about that?” And it’s the feeling that will give you direction.

Then, what subject do you study? Again, is this guided by the fact that your parents want you to do it because they can then say, “Our son/daughter is going to college to study – whatever”? Or you may believe that law is a better subject to study because it will pay better when you’ve qualified. Or maybe you just want to study a particular subject because you feel very strongly that that is the subject you’re most interested in.

Let’s now look at choices that you may want to make now. Do I want to live in the house I’m in now or do I want to move to another area? Do I want to stay in the job I’m in at the moment or do I want to change to another job? Do I want to be in a job or do I want to start my own business?

Because this is a blog devoted to mentoring and coaching for the purposes of making you successful in network marketing, the question I’m asking you is, “Why do you want to start your own online business?”

You may answer, “Because I want to earn extra income to do the things I’ve always wanted to do.” Or maybe, “I want financial freedom.” Or even, “I want to travel the world!” They may be OK as a start but there is no passion in them.

Have a look at the question listed below. Ask yourself these questions. Get a pen and paper, sit down somewhere quiet and comfortable and start writing.

  1. What would I like to have in my life that I don’t have right now? Consider the following to work out your answer to this question.
    • What would I love to do if there were no restrictions or obstacles?
    • If money was not a consideration, what would I like to do?
    • What makes me very happy?
    • What makes me laugh?
    • What stirs my emotions in a positive way when I think about it?
    • What do I always seem to think about when I daydream about what I’d really like to do, be or have?
    • What would I love to do to help others?
    • What characteristics, strains or character traits would I like to have that I don’t have now?
    • What type of physical appearance would I like to develop?
    • What do I want from my spouse or children and how do I make changes in myself to get them?
    • What do I want from others and how do I make changes in myself to get them?
    • What do my best friend and I do for fun?
    • What did I used to do that I enjoyed that I don’t do now?
  2. If I had that in my life or was that or could do that (the answer to 1) then how would that make me feel? (Apply to each of the questions above).
  3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how badly do I want each of those things? (10 being ‘I couldn’t live without it’ and 1 being ‘Can’t be bothered’)

You’ll begin by making decisions based on logic. These are left-brain activities and it’s reasoning such as, “I want a better job because I want more money.” “I want a better job because it will give me more money to buy extra things for the home, hobbies etc.”

As you move through the process your thinking will become more right-brained. Your decisions will have more emotion to them. You’ll begin to feel enthusiasm and excitement about your decisions. Then you’ll know that you’re moving into the ‘10’ area of your desires. It’s like the Richter Scale to measure the strength of an earthquake.

When you’ve come up with an answer – your WHY – the ‘10’ on your scale, then you’ve hit on your heart’s desire.

Your heart’s desire – your WHY – will carry you through the toughest times in building your business. Your WHY will carry you through all the negative talk of your family, friends, work colleagues, neighbours, all those who are jealous of your ambitions and all those who just want to ‘protect you’.

Your WHY will carry you when you feel it’s just too tough. Yes, there are times when this business is tough. Or so your subconscious will tell you. You must have your WHY, or else you’ll die – mentally and in your spirit.

You must have your WHY to combat the chatter in your mind. Replace the programming in your subconscious with your strong WHY.

Remember, ‘The object of your attention will always grow in power and size’.
